Preliminary Task Magazine Contents Page

Preliminary Task Questionnaire Analysis

We made a questionnaire to figure out how to make a college magazine. We asked our target audience (college students) a few key questions. The first question we asked them was if they read a college magazine. 90% said that they didn’t, this tells us the college magazines are not reaching our target audience.
To make it easier to design a front cover for the magazine we asked them what 3 colours they would like to see the most on the front cover. The majority chose white as one of their colours. The other top 3 colours were black, red and blue. Purple was also a popular colour despite being overshadowed by the other colours. What this tells me is the colour we use the most should be white. Red black and blue should also be used frequently on the cover. Purple could be used but sparingly.
To decide what image we should use of the front cover we asked people what they would most like to see. 80% said that they would either want student work or a student on the front cover. We also asked them at what price would the buy the magazine at. 75% said that they would buy the magazine for 50p to £1. So we have a choice at what price we could sell the magazine for.
Our 5th question was about how often people would want the magazine published. 70% want it to be published every week or fortnight. Realistically it would be easier to publish every 2 weeks. We wanted to know what features we should include in our magazine. Our questionnaire told us the most students would like to see; college events, technology, a jobs page, a gig guide, a films page and subject info in the magazine.

We asked them what they would call the magazine just to get a few ideas. Here are some of the suggestions we received, EN News, East Norfolk Life/Weekly, College News. To see if we could encourage more people to buy the magazine we asked them if freebies would encourage people to buy our college magazine. 85% of people said freebies would encourage them. Lastly we wanted to see if an online version would also attract people to the magazine. The people we asked were split 50/50 between yes and no.
